A Photo Every Once-In-A-While: Episode XXII

I climbed the grouse grind again last week after work one day, and this lady randomly had a hawk. It was pretty neat.

A Photo Every Once-In-A-While: Episode XXI

I went to a Maker Faire today. If you don't know what that is, basically its a show where people who make cool things come and display the stuff they make and talk about it to passers by. A lot of it is an exercise in "Why on earth would you make that?" like the hydraulic leg on a trailer that jumped from side to side for no apparent reason, but some of it is really cool, like this guy who makes surf boards in a shipping container. I'll probably post more pictures of the more interesting things in the next few days.

A Photo Every Once-In-A-While: Episode XX

A park I usually walk by on my way to church. Nothing too exciting to say about it other than I find it pretty cool.

A Photo Every Once-In-A-While: Episode XVIII

I didn't realise this before. I live within a block of the best sushi in Vancouver! What are the odds? I'm so lucky! I haven't had the chance to eat here yet, but since its the best, I suppose I have to!

Seriously though, regarding places I have to eat at: there is a restaurant called "The Mac Shack" a few blocks from my place, and all they have on their menu is variations on mac & cheese. It always surprises me how many people dismiss mac and cheese because all they've ever had is KD. I am of the opinion that mac and cheese is the worlds simplest recipe. The only ingredients involved are right there in the name! Even a BLT forgets to mention "bread" in it's name.

If you have never had REAL mac and cheese, go try this recipe. (serves 4-6 ... I tend to halve the recipe for myself)

4 cups macaroni
1 medium onion (diced)
2 tsp ground ginger
~2 cups grated cheese (add more or less as you see fit)
~1.5 cups cubed ham
1 chilli pepper (cut into small bits ... optional)

Cook the macaroni noodles al dente style.

In a greased pan, fry together the onion, ham, ginger and chilli pepper. Mix in the noodles and cheese. Wait for the cheese to melt. Enjoy. If you happen to be vegetarian, Muslim, or Jewish, I'm sure it tastes just as good without the ham

So many great uses for a boat with this name!

"Richardson! Where are you!?"
"I'm on The Job Site boss!"
"Okay, carry on"

"Sorry honey, I have to stay on The Job Site late tonight"

"Sorry man, I can't hang out this weekend, I'm going to be on The Job Site"

A Photo Every Once-In-A-While: Episode XVI

I went for a walk through some alley ways today. I thought this made a pretty cool photo. Nothing special, just graffiti and a recycling bin.

A Photo Every Once-In-A-While: Episode XIV

Because I didn't see much exciting stuff today, here is another photo from yesterday. This is me on a mountain. Yes, yes that IS snow behind me.

Also: today I got myself a super nice wetsuit for kitesurfing! Now I just have to get a kite... and a board... and a harness, but I'm almost there!

Pretty much everybody in Vancouver will understand what you're talking about when you refer to "The Grouse Grind." Grouse Mountain is a mountain in North Vancouver overlooking the lower mainland. Its got a skihill, as well as a hiking trail up the mountain named "The Grouse Grind." Hiking this trail is not for the faint of heart, as it is about 2.9 km of stairs straight up the mountain. I did it with my friend Charles. It took us about an hour and a half one way (we took the Gondola down).

The view from the top is phenomenal.

A Photo Every Once-In-A-While: Episode XII

I went walking around downtown the other day. The wrong side of town really. For those of you who know Vancouver, I went to Gastown, then past it, into the East Hastings area. I have NEVER seen that many homeless people in my life. Openly buying and using drugs... and not the Mary Jane. It broke my heart. Around there however is a fairly nice beach with a great view of downtown and the mountains in North Van.
